    WENGER KUJARIBU TENA KWA VILLA

Arsenal bosses have held summit talks at the club's Hertfordshire HQ in a bid salvage the club's fruitless January transfer window.
And the Gunners are throwing all their negotiating resources at trying to land David Villa before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Sportsmail understands that chief executive Ivan Gazidis arrived at the club's London Colney training complex on Monday for crunch discussions with manager Arsene Wenger to map out the closing stages of the transfer window.

Gazidis informed Wenger that the club have been unsuccessful in trying to secure the club's primary targets. And there is now a growing sense that Arsenal will not make any signings this month, instead opting to save the money for a massive splurge in the summer.
Arsenal remain in pursuit of Barcelona striker Villa, despite Wenger insisting yesterday that a potential deal for the Spaniard was dead in the water.

The Gunners will make a final offer to Barca chiefs in the next 24 hours in a bid to bring him to the Emirates, with Villa understood to be keen to join the Gunners.
However, Villa is the only realistic new signing going into the final 48 hours of the transfer window.
Wenger had earmarked a new goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder and a striker as his three priority areas to strengthen. Adrian Lopez, Edin Dzeko and Villa are all strike targets, while goalkeepers Pepe Reina, Michel Vorm and Simon Mignolet have interested Wenger.
Momo Diame had been earmarked as a potential candidate to fill the defensive midfield slot, but their is confusion over the West Ham star's release clause after Arsenal were informed it was £7million, rather than the rumoured £3.5m.

Ending the January transfer window without a single new signing will anger a large number of Arsenal fans who are desperate for Wenger to spend heavily on improving the squad.
The Frenchman is only prepared to spend money on signings he is sure can make a difference to his side. There could be one departure, however, with Brighton keen on defender Sebastien Squillaci.
